The
armillary dial is comprised of circular bronze rings, one ring
representing the equator carries the hour scale and another
represents the ecliptic. An arrow through the poles, pointing 'True
North' at the Pole Star, represents the Earth's axis and its shadow
indicates the time. There are five quotations engraved on the pillar.
