Sundial at Old Garlow Cross, Co. Meath

A modern 2005 analemmatic dial at Old Garlow Cross, approx. 7K south of Navan. The Roman hour numerals on the eliptical hour ring, are made of copper pipe embedded in concrete.

The date scale slabs shows the months in the form "Jan" "Feb" etc. Beside each month is engraved the 'Equation of Time' value for the first day of that month. A visitor standing at the proper point on the date scale with their back to the sun will see their shadow indicating Solar Time

The information plaque which tells the 'Old Garlow' story includes an explanation of the sundial with instructions on how to convert sun time to watch time and why they differ.

If you know the location of a sundial in Ireland (NOT a mass produced DIY Store garden ornament) please email it to me (Click here to email M.J.Harley) - a member of British Sundial Society
